About 200 models from all over the world and 80 are on display
different car brands. The specimens in the collection cover a
time span from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
The present, past and future of the automobile coexist at the MAUTO, thanks to an involving setup and spaces suitable for encouraging meetings between the public and
protagonists of the automotive world.
«The automobile - declares President Benedetto Camerana - is a summary of
modernity and the MAUTO stages its history, exposes its present, rapidly
transformation on a global scale, and proposes anticipatory visions of the future, among
autonomous driving and innovative propulsion methods. The headquarters is in Turin, where moreover
in a century, 70 car manufacturers and 80 body builders were born, one more Turin
today a crucial international epicenter for automotive engineering and design. And it is
national museum, for an Italy that has given so much to the history of the automobile,
in industry, in innovation, in design, in competitions.
This is identity of the
MAUTO: its long history, its splendid headquarters, its extraordinary layout
make it one of the most famous museums appreciated in the world. Today the MAUTO program is
twofold: to be a center for discussion of innovative ideas and projects (from design to
restoration) and an international promotion engine for the city and the territory".
The MAUTO has its roots in 1932, the year in which people started talking about
creation of a national museum dedicated to the automobile. Great protagonists of
this first phase were Cesare Goria Gatti and Roberto Biscaretti di Ruffia. However, it was
the latter's son, Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia, to set up the collection
originaland to find, after various temporary locations, an exhibition venue
definitive, designed by architect Amedeo Albertini and inaugurated in 1960.
In 2011 the Museum was able to benefit from amajor renovation, on
project by architect Cino Zucchi, who further enhanced the cars
of the collection, also thanks to the renewed exhibition itinerary created by Francois
Confino.

on an international level, which boasts a collection of vintage cars unique in the world,
exhibited in an exciting display; the Documentation Center and the
Restoration is the flagship of the structure, the result of constant commitment to
research and recovery of the history of the sector. The goal of the museum is valorise them
own resources, orienting itself towards an increasingly growing audience. vast, offering different
types of visitors engaging experiences and strengthening one's vocation

In addition to the permanent exhibition itinerary is possible to visit, on
booking, the Open Garage, a place that houses the recently inaugurated Restoration Centre. An integral part of the collection is represented by
countless materials preserved at the Documentation Center, archive
among the most rich internationally.
The teaching section has given rise to innovative laboratories, designed in collaboration
with the Polytechnic of Turin, involving students of all ages.
The Internal square, the Auditorium and the Congress Center, suitable for hosting an audience
numerous, fulfill the function of a meeting place that the Museum
of the Automobile has always wanted to enhance.
