The economic importance of the Agnelli family is linked to industry
of the automotive and particularly the FIAT brand of which they were co-founders.
The Agnelli soon became a symbol of industrial power
Italianand in the twentieth century, but above all during the economic boom of
1960s, significantly increased their wealth becoming for many
decades the most family wealthy woman from Italy. Symbol and living icon
of the family was for a long time Giovanni Agnelli known par excellence
like the Lawyer. We owe this collection to him and his wife Marella
of art which for a long time remained inaccessible to the public, adorning the walls
of family homes.
The exhibition venue is located on the top floor of the Lingotto (accessible by
stairs or lift) and offers notable panoramic views of the surrounding Alps
in Turin; the art gallery consists of asingle room divided by large rooms
panels where the canvases of the collection are housed.
Upon entry you are welcomed by a large futurist painting by Giacomo
Dance, Speed abstract(1913), which dialogues with a small canvas
of Severini located on the opposite wall. On the right side stands a statue
feminine by Canova which introduces some Canalettos placed on the wall.
In the next two sectors there are large canvases by the Venetian landscape painters Canaletto and Bellotto with Venetian panoramas for the former and for the city
of Dresden for the second. We then move on to an area dedicated to Matisse which
hosts four of his works dating back to the 1920s.
Finally, in the last sector, two canvases by Picasso from the early twentieth century are placed on the wall, a painting by Renoir and a splendid Modigliani.
