The Shroud Museum - located within the complex of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist - houses the Holy Shroud, one of the most important religious artefacts famous and discussed in the world.

The museum exhibits finds, documents and images that narrate the history of the Sacred Linen without neglecting the countless scientific research carried out, part of the documentation is reported.
The visit itinerary begins with the presentation of a video in five languages which offers an analytical reading of the image of the Shroud.
The itinerary is then divided into a scientific itinerary, which illustrates the various investigations carried out during the twentieth century, and into a historical itinerary, starting from the second half of the 15th century when the Sacred Linen became part of the properties of the House of Savoy.
One of the jewels of the museum is thesixteenth-century silver and semiprecious stone reliquaryin which the Shroud was preserved from its acquisition by the Savoy family until11 April 1997, the day in which a fire in the Guarini Chapel of the Turin Cathedral threatened its existence.
In particular, a hologram of the Shroud highlights its three-dimensional structure which was discovered by Jackson and Jumper in 1978 and confirmed by Giovanni Tamburelli from Turin in the same year.
History of the Shroud Museum of Turin
Permanently opened on 4 June 1936 by the Confraternity of the Santissimo Sudario, the Shroud Museum in 1998 was was transferred to its current location in the crypt of the Church of the Holy Sudario, built between 1734 and 1764 by the aforementioned brotherhood.
